What is Rehabilitation Medicine?

Rehabilitation Medicine aims to enhance and restore function and quality of life to those with disabilities. Such Rehab specialists train in restoring optimal function to people with injuries to the muscles, bones, and nervous system. The aim is to optimise the ability of a person to function within the disabling disease process rather than aiming for a cure. The emphasis is not on full recovery, but on the quality of life. A team-based coordinated approach to chronic conditions supported by Rehabilitation Specialists as facilitators, and medical experts maximises patients' outcomes.
